Reporters Without Borders – Audio Cartoons for Charlie

On 7 January 2015, the French satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo was the victim of a horrible terrorist attack. Two gunmen armed with Kalashnikov rifles attacked the Charlie Hebdo offices, killing 12 innocent people. Among the victims were famous cartoonists Charb (editor of Charlie Hebdo), Wolinski, Cabu, Tignous and Honoré. They were murdered for peacefully expressing their opinions, armed only with paper and ink.

In reaction to the horrible events, Reporters Without Borders Belgium and 7 Belgian cartoonists created AUDIO CARTOONS, our way of showing the surrealism of what happened in Paris. Because if cartoonists can’t express their opinions anymore with paper and ink, what’s next? If they can’t publish their drawings, do they have to describe them? We should never let it come this far.

The audio cartoons were broadcast on radio, television and online.
As a tribute to the survivors of Charlie Hebdo, to the relatives and friends of the victims, and to freedom of expression.
