Today we look at how the Bitcoin Fullnode can be used by citizen journalists to report stories in real time using GitHub and IPFS.
Janine is working on the #AppleVsFBI Story here:
If you have IPFS installed or are running a Fullnode you can download it with the following command:
ipfs get /ipfs/QmTWfFj2n7sz5KG2Ep8gSCRysSDZP9hjz6ctsjYfkRRNzK -o /folder of your choice
Good.
The thing with IPFS is it is just a backend. It doesn’t exactly provide a platform for journalists, just a file storage and retrieval. Individuals still need to find a platform, and those remain centralized and politically controlled.
+Q Queuenstein Hi yes for now you are correct which is why we are using this project as research to find ways of reducing our dependency on centralised systems where possible. IPFS have already made extensions for Firefox and there is IPFS Station which I tried to demo in the video.
Also there are HTTP Gateways like this one: https://neocities.org/permanent-web and also http://alexandria.media/#/media which uses blockchain to store meta data and help with resolving.
