Cambodia’s prime minister has ordered the shutdown of one of the country’s few remaining local independent media outlets. The closure order of Voice of Democracy on February 12, 2023, came after Hun Sen took issue with a news report about his son. One of the world’s longest-serving leaders, the Cambodian strongman has increasingly cracked down on any opposition as he prepares for elections later this year.

No free press :'(
a media paid by murican govt is not independent 😂
“Free press” is a meaningless western concept used to gaslight non-western people. Everyone was much better off before European colonizers invaded and brought their “free press” delusions
@Milan life
ok
Like the TV Rain shutdown of Russia
We also have many independent press here in vn, the gov has blocked access to those sites. But we can still access via VPN.
Sad 😥😔
in Cambodia, not many people know about VPN.

jeopardy! 😅
Cry about it 🇻🇳🇻🇳🇻🇳
Not sure why it’s still called independent media when it’s backed by foreign investors.
You dumb enough.
It depends on how you see it. If you think that outsiders influence them, then it’s not an independent media and vice versa.

As a Cambodian, this is a really scary move from Prime minister. Cambodia is a democracy state, but not a democracy state….
Voice of Democracy sounds like Voice od America which is a well propaganda channel
Terrible decision. Freedom of the press is a must.
