The website Raqqa is Being Slaughtered Silently (RBSS) publishes firsthand accounts of the war crimes of ISIS in often horrific detail. City of Ghosts, a new documentary by Oscar-nominated director Matthew Heineman, tells the story of the citizen journalists who risk their lives to tell the world about the atrocities committed by the Islamic State.
"After ISIS took over the city there really was not any information going in or any information going out," explains Heineman. "There were no western journalists there. They would be killed instantly. So this group really provided a service to the world to help understand the atrocities that were being committed in their hometown, which just happened to be the capital of the Islamic State."
Heineman and RBSS Co-founder Abdalaziz "Aziz" Alhamza sat down with Reason to discuss how these citizen journalists are risking their lives to counter ISIS propaganda.

So you think that 100 million Africans, lets say, who have only known a way of life where the strong take power and succeed through force should just be able to walk in if they choose to and thatll have no impact upon society? Firstly, millions of people will not flood into this country if we adopt a more open border policy. Most people prefer living in the country they were born in simply because they were born there. Just listen to a few foreign political speeches, even in an objectively horrible place like Venezuela people many say they don’t want to move.
Secondly, even if our resources became tight, market forces would solve the problem. If demand increases, then the price of the product will increase. This will incentive producers to create more, the price will then go back down, and everyone’s happy (to simply things).
Finally, putting our welfare system under more strain may do some good. It will show those who originally supported the welfare system it’s weaknesses and get them to support change. It’s an opportunity.
