Citizen journalists play important roles in public service delivery improvement. They capture issues not many mainstream medias cover and create noise to demand for better public services.
USAID Kinerja through its local NGO partners empowers citizen journalists in five provinces in Indonesia: Aceh, West Kalimantan, East Java, South Sulawesi, and Papua. As of 2014, hundreds active citizen journalists with various background, such as university students, NGO staff, teachers, health workers, government officials, and other community members report issues related to health, education and business licensing services around them as well as to advocate for better services.
