Dr. Uma Vangal Shivakumar is a filmmaker, critic, freelance journalist, media scholar and film teacher based in Chennai and has been a teacher of media/communication for nearly 20 years now. As Professor in the Direction Department and Head of the Media & Entertainment Department of LV Prasad Film & TV Academy, and a Visiting Professor of Film at the Department of Dance, Drama & Film, Kenyon College, Ohio, she considers herself fortunate to be teaching a subject that is her passion and profession.
India is the most prolific film-making nation while The United States is the biggest global film Industry in the world. While film going is on the decline In the US and stay at home audiences are on the rise, India continues to be a devoted film going nation. The two biggest democracies in the world with a common interest in visual narrative as our common interest, what makes us even more similar is the linguistic and cultural diversity of the two nations.
