Joe Biden asked to step aside in race for US president | BBC News

Congressman Lloyd Doggett has become the first sitting Democratic lawmaker to call on Joe Biden to step aside in the race for the US presidency.

It follows a critical review by some in the Democrat Party of the president's performance during his first debate with Republican rival Donald Trump – but Biden's team says he has no plans to walk away.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump's sentencing following his conviction in his hush-money trial will be delayed until September.

    • Nah that’d be your crew….the majority of spineless ageist parasites…hope he doesn’t bow to pressure and holds out against this laughable caveman BS

  1. It is absolutely absurd that someone who is clearly in such a bad way with his health has been allowed to govern essentially the most important country in the world, do you know how many videos I’ve seen where he’s just an absolute incoherent mess, complete insanity

    • .DOnt talk about Biden like that. He is a bright, intelligent man and of service for decades for the US whereas it is evident is that the GOP have a dementia -suffering, convicted felon, adjudicated rapist, aspiring dictator Trump running for presidency, staring the end of democracy in the face and nobody seems to talk about that

  2. It’s interesting how they keep saying, “following his debate performance” as if it has just been sanctioned that they begin acknowledging what has been evident from the start.

    • That is an interesting way to state things. They HAVE, in my opinion and using your words, “sanctioned…acknowledging what has been evident from the start.”
The reality is the left leaning American press has been deliberately keeping Biden’s decline hidden, by continually lying and covering it up. On the other hand right leaning press has covered his infirmity since the 2020 campaign. Remember his campaign was BEFORE the SARS-COV2 pandemic. He held very few rallies or other campaign events, and most of the one’s he did have were done remotely from his home. Their most recent leftist media gaslighting of his decline was by calling videos of Biden’s issues “cheap fakes”. HOWEVER, after the G7 conference when Biden was distracted by the paratroopers landing during the photo op. One of the other leaders gracefully grabbed his arm and the other leaders there then formed around him to take the picture. While the American press lied about the praise the European press gave Biden, the truth is that even though most European press are very left leaning, like America’s, the European press was at least honest in their reporting basically calling Biden lost and weak. Meanwhile, the American media went on a full court press with the “cheap fakes” narrative. However, the behind-the-scenes top DEMS have been floating articles about possible replacements for over a month BEFORE the G7 conference. After G7, they KNEW they could not continue to push Biden. Then the campaign event in California and all the video clips of Biden suddenly freezing seemingly mesmerized by the crowd cheering for him. Then Obama stepping up and taking Biden’s wrist and then putting his arm around the old man’s shoulders. The problem for the media and the Dems there was no way they could continue to call them GOP sponsored editing “cheap fakes”. They couldn’t do that because they were cell phone videos posted by attendees of the fund raiser, actual Biden supporters. SO many of those clips were going viral, they just couldn’t be “managed” by the “official press” coverage. Go ahead and do some scrounging and searching on the net for Biden’s last State of the Union Address. You don’t have to watch the whole thing, but you can watch enough to see his anger and yelling. You also see him struggling to speak clearly and complete sentences, even with a teleprompter. Then watch his debate with Trump from last week. It is like 2 completely different people. One while lively and energetic, still struggling to speak, was probably hyped up on Adderall. The other off the meds and looking worn, tired, confused and struggling even more to speak.
Now, the left leaning press here in America IS beginning to turn on Biden. CNN released off air in studio footage of Trump leaving the stage walking purposefully with sure strides. Biden had to be helped to walk down THREE steps by his wife and he still nearly missed a step. CNN’s Jake Tapper’s coverage of Biden has taken a 180 degree about face from just a few weeks ago. He is supposed to be a neutral journalist right, but he is far from that. He has been a Trump hating activist journalist that has not hidden his bias. His coverage of Biden for CNN has gone along with the “cheap fakes” narrative, UNTIL just a few weeks ago. Tapper has marching orders from someone very high up. He is now reporting “objectively” about Biden’s decline. As Tapper and CNN turn so too will the rest of the media.
Sorry for the book but thank you for patience to read it all.

    • @@keithlillis7962 Actually no. Who won a debate is purely subject to one’s own opinion and political views. While Biden from 2020 was significantly better than now, the beginning of his decline was still hugely evident especially compared to Biden running as VP with Obama in 2008 and 2012. I think Biden was actually already beginning to slip up. It is just HIGHLY unusual that a sitting VP does not run and receive the nomination for President. Bush 41 after Reagan, Al Gore after Clinton. Biden was set to retire. However, the top brass dems did not prepare anyone else to lead them. Hillary jumped in the mix. I think there are 2 things that hurt her more than anything else.
      1. It was discovered that her and DNC chairwoman had conspired a plan to block Bernie Sanders. That really did make a lot of people on the left extremely angry. 2. She was getting debate questions ahead of time from the DNC. There are millions of middle of the road voters that would still see that as cheating and I think that hurt her on voting day.
As for Trumps performance this last week, the left says he lost, the right says he won. I myself think it was weak. There is plenty wrong in Biden’s administration to attack his policies and appointments of bad personnel. Trump just cannot stop himself from repeating certain phrases too many times wasting valuable debate time. He should have stated his case of Biden bad policy, refer to his own record, then make the case how he would be the better choice now. He just could not resist getting in the personal digs and getting into a toddler level tit for tat about who plays better golf.

    • @@laforge001 I find your comment very interesting and well thought through, however, I personally believe that Trump and Project 2025 are a real threat to American democracy and especially after the Supreme Court’s latest ruling. Below is the actual text from Justice Thomas: “First, with respect to any criminal conduct relating to a President’s “core constitutional powers”—those subjects
“within his ‘conclusive and preclusive’ constitutional authority”—the President is entitled to absolute immunity from criminal prosecution. See ante, at 6, 8.
Second, expanding outward from this “core,” regarding all other “acts
within the outer perimeter of [the President’s] official responsibility,” the President is entitled to “at least a presumptive immunity from criminal prosecution.” Ante, at 14.
As now, even the President’s motives cannot be challenged in is ‘core’ duties, The US now only relies on the honesty and good faith of a President. Something I believe Trump is devoid of.

  3. I’m an independent voter, never been affiliated with a party, and I despise the two party system. Watching a party implode like this is absolute comedy gold right now

  4. The reason why they had 20 candidates in the 2020 Democratic primaries was to make sure the Bernie Sanders vote would be split….The 2020 Democratic primaries wasn’t about stopping Donald Trump is was about stopping Bernie Sanders….Joe Biden was chosen the 2020 Democratic candidate as far back as December 2017…Kamala Harris was chosen V.P. in 2019…

  5. The thing is at that age things can go wrong QUICK. My grandad was up a ladder helping a neighbour paint a house at 73 and was generally in very good health for his age. 6 months later he had lost most of his mental faculties stopped eating, and drinking properly and was withering away 9 months after painting the neighbours house he was dead. When I said to him “look grandad you need to eat, you were healthy not that long ago painting that house”. The answer I would always get was “That was years ago”.
