UK Election 2024: The headlines | BBC News

Here are the UK's general election headlines for Monday, 24 June.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has said he is not aware of any other Conservative candidates being investigated by the gambling commission in connection with allegations of betting on the date of the UK’s general election.

Labour leader Keir Starmer said the Conservative Party investigation into the betting allegations were designed to “knock the story into the long grass” until after the election.

The UK's main political parties have “ducked” addressing stark choices over public finances in their manifestos, a leading think tank has warned.

The Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) has launched its 2024 election manifesto.

SNP leader John Swinney has said Brexit is doing “colossal” damage to the UK’s and Scotland’s economy.

The co-leader of the Greens has defended the scale of his party's tax plans, calling them "fairly modest" by European standards in a BBC Panorama interview.

Liberal Democrat leader Ed Davey has pledged to address dangerous NHS wait times in A&E.

  1. When Sunak says that he is not aware of any more gambling offenders in his party, what he means is either that he has successfully covered it up or he is so inept that he simply hasn’t got a bloody clue.

    • @@Tom-pn3zh That’s a very reductivist view. Reform have positioned themselves as being enemies of the tories, because they claim the tories haven’t done anything that they should have during their time in power.

    • @@Tom-pn3zh this labour government is chock full of crap, their main appeal at this point is just to be anything but tory. the tories have failed on their promises that are meant to be unique to them so if labour are going to win anyway by default then why not give an opposition a chance with somebody that actually seems to believe what they are saying. the country is so in debt and it’s not as if labour are going to say to lower taxes are they

    • If you are in favour of mass immigration, you are in favour of more traffic on roads , more queues in shops, more crowded beaches and beauty spots in summer, more overcrowding in high streets, more overflowing bins, more sewerage in rivers as more people use water and flush toilets etc, less free seats on trains, and just generally everything feeling more and more busy with each passing year that this madness carries on for. Oh and less and less countryside as more and more building needs to be done in our deranged and futile efforts to keep up. Sounds like a great future…..
Have you really thought it through, I think not.

    • @@Tom-pn3zh they are for now because we haven’t dealt with them for awhile but after 4 years, we will be sick of their bs too. Reform will actually tackle the migration crisis, which has raised crime rate, made houses more expensive. I see that as our biggest problem, currently
