Keir Starmer has said that he is going to have to make tough decisions and "make them early" in his first news conference as UK prime minister.
He said that prisons are an obvious example of an issue that needs to be addressed, "where other parts of the system are broken".
On Saturday he chaired a cabinet meeting for the first time in Downing Street in which he said a "huge amount of work" was under way.

I didn’t vote for Labour, but I’m nonetheless relieved that the UK turned the page on populism. “Boring” grown up politics is what we’ve needed so badly.
EXACTLY.
Populism is dangrous.
Good point
15% of voters for Reform, more than any other election, and almost as many as Afd in Germany
Let’s see what wars Labour will drag us through this time?
It’s not over, Rishi Sunak wasnt a populist either. The big populist in this election was Reform, who did well getting 14% of the vote.
I’m American but this dude sounds like he is better than our politicians. ❤❤❤❤
That’s not hard, right now, between a convicted criminal and a guy pushing age.
What did u say
If only that was a challenge…
cant be any worse than sleepy joe🙄
I didn’t vote Labour but Sir Keir Starmer actually sounds quite reasonable here.
he’s trained to sound reasonable while saying nearly nothing.
He seems to sound totally different from when he was in opposition. Like he is less anxious.
It feels like so long since i listened to a prime minister speaking who sounds like a prime minister speaking.
Same circus different 🤡
@@giovannipanzeri6431Better that than to flat out lie and make promises that you can’t or have no intention of keeping.
People complaining that he’s too dull and boring. A charismatic politician is the last thing this country need. We’ve had enough of the toxic spectacle and entertainment. This is exactly what we need, a boring government, no showmanship just doing the job exactly as it needs to.
Enjoy more immigration then, enjoy higher taxes then, and enjoy more wokism. If you live on benefits you will enjoy the new government, otherwise you are fooked my friend. This is a black day for the country
Agreed and that’s why I voted for him
Basically this is reality and the uk knows, we are not in the 2000s, early 2010s anymore. Where our future is going to look bright. Maybe it will happen. Its a different page. And both know we are on the same page, even though there is distrust and hate and indifference. Just hope that as we are out the EU, idk why but we can make it better. That’s what I want to see.
Will be 250000 waiting to cross at Calais within 12 months
Don’t Translate…

One thing I like already he talks like a normal human being not like we are all children like rishi
Yeah but no substance to any of it. Just generic fluff
Agreed, he’s telling us what he plans. But only time will tell. I’m hoping he’s out in 5 years time if he does nothing good.
If he does then we shall see
Because Rishi is the disciple of Modi…. Who things all voters are brainless worms
Agreed
That persistent condescending smile. PMQs: Why are you ruining our country? *Replies with big smile*
starmer doesn’t have the same charisma as other politicians, and his speeches aren’t going to dazzle anyone, but he is a man who started from the bottom and worked hard to reach the top. we may be pleasantly surprised by his achievements as PM over the next 5 years.
Indeed, his father was a tool maker and what a lovely tool he fashioned with his wife.
@@ASBO_LUTELY I voted for labour, but man this comment is too funny 😂😂
Agreed
Hes gonna certainly make a lot of needed changes, but his policy on the EU is awful, lets hope that changes as he realizes how badly the tories have fucked up the economy, especially in the roots of it
Who is writing his scripts? No body who wrote his own would look down at it so much.
I haven’t been following UK politics closely for some time, but this guy sounds pretty reasonable and competent here. Best of luck.
hes about as useful as an ashtray on a motorbike
@@charlesta654 He’s infinitely better than anything the conservatives have ever put forward.
@@Aoredon ever is a long time? want to define ‘ever’?
We’re going to need it. Keir Starmer used to be the Director of Public Prosecutions at the Crown Prosecution Service. He prevented Jimmy Savile, a celebrity who was a prolific sex abuser, from being prosecuted.
@@alibali672 What do you mean prevented?

What are you talking about? He has that same blocked nose weird posh boy voice as Ed MilIband

He’s much easier to listen to than the previous PM. He sounds genuine.
He may just be a good liar. He was a lawyer.
Only time will tell
They all sound like that on day one. Nobody really watches what happens until the next election, but its doubtful he’ll be good for British people or British values, or the economy for that matter
Rishi always sounded like a robot reading of autocue. Something about that dude just screams “alien”
The levels of cope in this comment section….
As an outside observer he seems more genuine and sensible that the clowns you have had the last few years . Best of luck👍
From the Media bias you mean?
You really think any Native-Britons voted for this clown …?
He’s a serious politician unlike the narcissist buffoon Boris Johnson who lies like he breathes (Trump!), sociopath Truss, and out-of-touch Sunak.
😂😂😂😂
Come back in 5 years time 🤔
Someone who loves this country and it’s people💪💪 please help the poorer 🙌🙌
lol, “loves this country and it’s people”…. he’s Blairs student…. he’ll sell out the UK to the WEF / EU and hates the UK (loves HIS rich friends)… The UK will be renamed WEF /EU puppet state 28… the Affluent fake left & indolent will win, the workers will be taxed!
How can you love a country when your prepared to let thousands of illegal migrants onto this island at the expense of the Inhabitants… at least some of guys have someone to serve your tofu frappes at pret a manger for minimal wage
People saying he’s too boring…we need stability and security and someone who is trustworthy. Not pantomime politics like Farage or Boris.

@@an-albumhole4400to be fair you need at lay at least some, if not 2/3 of the blame on the people that crashed the world economy, Brown really didn’t have a lot of choice in what he did, and equally it can be argued neither did Cameron/Osbourne with regards austerity (although the extent and proportionality of it can be) as they had to react to that action.
