    • This formation would not be my first choice but if this is what he is going for then he needs to drop, Foden, Bellingham and Trippier. Eze and Palmer playing in the channel as narrow wide men/10’s would make far more sense with the wing backs offering the width on the outside. kane dropping deep(which he inevitably will) won’t be an issue because Palmer and Eze will make incisive runs into the box. Trent also has to start over Tripps, he offers so much going forward and can fill in for Mainoo if and when he steps into the 10 like he does for Liverpool. Walker is more than capable of covering any defensive liability on that side.

    • @@mrnumba154Southgate is going to 5 at the back to add more defenders not attackers lol. If you think the man is capable of dropping Bellingham you’re lost, even though there would be no point doing so .

    • Walker has been awful in this tournament… More passing back than his usual bursting down the sidelines… Trippier is the right call as he basically plays RWB for Newcastle with his style of link up play and can help us get the ball to the wide players, which is what we desperately need at the minute.

    • @@imobjectivelybalancedonTHEball this is Gareth Southgate football don’t you understand… Foden & Bellingham are supposed to be No.10’s but ALWAYS end up on the wings… Mainoo will end up playing as the 10 and Rice will hold at 8. It’ll be exactly the same tomorrow.

  1. So he decides not to play Trent because I assume he doesn’t trust him defensively, yet he decides to play Saka on the opposing wing back whose not a natural full-back and can’t defend as good as Trent. Make it make sense. Clueless manager! 🤣

    • @@SimonRiding I know Trent is world class and has to play but there’s a bigger case for Saka to get dropped than Trippier because England needs a defensive wing back, Saka isn’t one and also Saka has been non-existent in most games. He does nothing with the ball, no taking on defenders, good old turn back and pass back or sideways. We need the likes of Palmer and Gordon who play more direct and will try to take on defenders.Trent is crucial part of that system as he has runners to break defences with his vision and passing abilities.

I’d even drop Kane who does nothhing but walk around the pitch, just expects his team to give him chances on a plate without making any runs and taking on defenders. Thus far what he’s produced can be emulated by any other striker England have got, but the difference with them is they’ll make defenders work and Trent has another option and more space to play those killer passes. With Kane you won’t get that.

    • RWB in a 3 and RB in a 4 are different. You don’t need to be heavily relied on your defensive game at RWB because you have 3 CB’s Covering & he will have Rice and Mainoo covering too. That argument makes no sense.

    • Trips is more experienced & can actually defend, Trent cant. Trent as an option off the bench could be useful. If we have Saka LWB then makes sense to go with a more defensively sound option on the other side.

    • @@hayz1313 He is a RWB, mainly going forward. Trent is world class going forward, trippier is bang average… Why does everyone have an agenda that Trent cannot defend when Trippier literally has done nothing at all the entire Euros. Trents attacking play is unbelievable and it may be the spark england need to actually do something attacking wise.

  2. Some of Southgate’s picks were so bad like picking an unfit Shaw when Mitchell was available he’s a good LB that would’ve atleast been better than Saka playing there, Southgate’s getting sacked and i think Switzerland will beat them with their confidence being high after beating Italy.

  3. So he will play Trent as a right CM , out of position and then give him no runners to hit , making him look bad…..but when the opportunity arises to give Trent the perfect chance in a back 5 as a wing back he’s goes for an out of form Trippier? I’ve got some paint drying this afternoon……it’s going to be a difficult choice 😢
