A Year in the Life of a Freelance Journalist Abroad

A video about my year spent in Beijing and other places. It was a tough and fun year in which I learnt a lot.

The video was shot entirely on a Canon S120 point-and-shoot, and edited in Windows Movie Maker. Because that's all I can afford right now. For more on my time in Beijing, check out my blog www.theluhai.com

  1. Nice one Lu-Hai – keep going! My advice would be to pester the big agencies for jobs, they seem to have quite a high turnover… If you have the language you are at an advantage…

    • Thanks Tom! Yes I think working for Reuters, Bloomberg and suchlike could be something, the pay of course is decent. I may stick it out for a bit longer in freelance though. Thanks for watching!

  2. ur apartment at 1:20 was a split one with several others? and you did that for 7 months (or just a normal hostel?). I stayed in one of those split apartments for a month or so- was not easy.

    • +Joshua Linder It was a long hallway with several rooms for other people. We mostly stayed in our rooms so didn’t really see the others, but there were maybe 5-7 of us, all sharing a horrible bathroom. Yeah, 7 months I lived in that tiny little room…
