In India, journalists who cover corruption may pay with their lives. Of the 27 journalists who have been murdered for their work in India since 1992, more than half reported on politics and corruption. Jagendra Singh was one of them.
More than a year has passed since Jagendra Singh died from extensive burns. In a video interview from the hospital, the freelance journalist said he was beaten and set on fire because of his reporting. Singh’s case highlights the dangers faced by small-town journalists covering corruption and politics in India and the problem of impunity in the country. #India
