Russia: Paralympian Jessica Long meets birth mother for first time

US Paralympic swimmer Jessica Long met her biological mother Monday in Siberia for the first time since she was adopted. Long's mother, Natalya Valtysheva, now lives in a village near the Siberian town of Bratsk, and the two had not seen each other since Long was adopted by Americans Beth and Steve Long in 1993.

Long was born Tatiana Kirillova in Bratsk, and adopted when she was 13 months old. Because of fibular hemimelia, her lower legs were amputated at the age of 18 months. She learned to walk and swim with prostheses, and holds world records in 13 Paralympic events.
